The launch of the book “Cancer Care in Pandemic Times: Building Inclusive Local Health Security in Africa and India” at Serena Hotels, Nairobi, brought together healthcare experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss strengthening healthcare systems amid global health crises. The book was authored by 24 experts and edited by five leading scholars worldwide.
It features contributions from researchers in health sciences and leaders in industrial development, offering diverse perspectives on cancer care in pandemic times. Among the distinguished contributors was Dr Cecilia Wanjala, the acting CEO of Kenya BioVax Institute Limited, who co-authored three chapters emphasizing the role of innovation and resilience in advancing health security across Africa.
The book comprehensively analyses cancer care in resource-limited settings, advocates for transforming Africa’s health security landscape, and promotes inclusive and sustainable healthcare approaches and industrial innovation. Kenya BioVax Institute appreciates Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the The Open University (UK) for collaborating to produce this valuable resource. Such initiatives are crucial in shaping policies and practices that strengthen cancer care and pandemic preparedness across Africa and beyond.
